Vetrans Day Parade
We have been asked if we could help with the Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Fort Worth on Wednesday morning, 11 November 2015, from about 8:00 AM until 12:30 PM. |
This is very short notice both to us and to you. We have responded that it may be too late to be of much help and they understand. However, if we can provide at least a token support we will be in better position to help them next year. I will be attending their last meeting before the event this Saturday, 7 November.
If you are interested in helping with this event, please let me know by e-mail. I will mention this on the RACES Net this evening.

Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis
Itís time for the annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis. We have supported this event for many years. This year (like last) it will headquarter at Burnett Park in downtown Fort Worth and will go out and back from there. It is an afternoon/evening event on Saturday, 5 December. Details are available in the URL at the top of this message. |
We will need about 15-20 Communicators to staff it properly. Assignments will start at about 1:00 pm and go until 7:00 pm. Assignment lengths will vary.
If you would like to volunteer, please sign up in the Memberís Sign-Up Section of http://www.tarrantraces.org. Please provide your name, call sign, T-Shirt Size, and any limitations you might have when you sign up. For equipment, a dual band HT should be adequate for this event.
If you have questions, please contact me at w5iu or 817-292-5633. We have already received some sign-ups but could still use some more.

The Bandera 100K is held at Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera County Texas. The facility is 5400 acres of remote and mostly undisturbed hill country. The B100K has a 24 hour time limit, of which 22 hours +/- is supported on air and utilizing packet radio/RMS Express. We have 900+ participants between the 25, 50 and 100K events run simultaneously, as well as support crews and staff. The event typically requires 20 operators to comfortably support Health and Welfare, Runner Tracking, early morning traffic control/parking and occasionally Search and Rescue. |
This is a remote area requiring portable stations with gain antenna's to communicate from net control and between each station, and to support the packet system. As this is a remote area, all stations must be self contained with their own power sources. Cell coverage is nearly non-existent, but can be had with a good cell booster and elevated antenna.
The lead Amateur Radio organization is Hill Country REACT with support from Highland Lakes ARC, Chaparral ARC and others throughout the region. Our core team is relatively stable, but we always welcome new support and capabilities to train and learn with us, while providing a valuable service.
This is a excellent place to see if your go-kit is really up to the task.
Please contact Louis - K5STX or call if you are interested in supporting this event or would like more information.
